It’s saturation mode with a 1:1 ratio really helps get a nice clipping limiter type of sound. The stereo width knobs will cause you to lose sound when you use them and then listen in mono (phase cancellation of sorts depending on what is being put through it). It can be kind of shitty with attack and release since they work slightly different than a regular compressor, but it’s easy to work around. NOW - For my personal Opinion: Maximus is fantastic. Sometimes you may just use Maximus, sometimes it will be EQ, saturation, and just limiting, sometimes it might be just. Just keep learning and you’ll soon find that your chains will vary for each song. Learning to master isn’t some same chain for same results it’s always different! You don’t need all of these plugins for every track, it’s just a template of sorts and you can remove what isn’t needed. If you want some quick mastering you’ll have to create a simple mastering chain with several plugins: Fruity Balance (for volume automation or adjustment), EQ 2 (for master EQ), Waveshaper (for saturation), some sort of compressor (for light compression) OR Maximus (for multiband compression), then using Maximus’s saturation section to create a clipping limiter of sorts (for a more aggressive master), and finally a true peak limiter (which FL does not include, Limiter No 6 is free and is a true peak limiter, which avoids intersample peaks).
